Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to install SiteDrive on both sites?
Yes, you will need SiteDrive on both sites — the one setting up the drive and the one accessing it.
Do I have to pay for cloud storage?
No, SiteDrive leverages your existing hosting account. You do not need any paid add ons or additional services.
Can I make a drive private or public?
When setting up a drive, you can turn drive visibility on or off. In order for someone to access the drive, visibility must be turned on (public). There are multiple ways you can manage access to the drive through things like the SiteDrive Key, approval by domain, or a password.
Can I share multiple files at once?
Yes, you can add as many files as you wish to a drive.
What happens if I delete an item from SiteDrive? Will it delete the item from any live page using it?
If an item is deleted on a SiteDrive, but another site already imported the item, it won't delete it from the site that imported it. It will delete the listing on the site hosting the item from the drive.
Can I turn off someone’s access to a drive remotely?
There are multiple options to manage or revoke access to a SiteDrive. You can:
- Add specific domains that can connect to your drive.
- If you have added specific domains, you can remove that domain from your list of valid domains.
- Turn visibility off from the drive settings. This will make the drive private and not accessible.
- Change the password. This will require all sites accessing that drive to update their connection.
Is there a way to set up a complete website for someone that could be managed remotely?
Essentially, yes after the initial setup is complete. The primary purpose of SiteDrive is to send files from one WordPress site to another in real time. In addition, you can import any number of plugins, themes, posts, and additional WordPress files. Once a plugin or theme is activated on the recipients end, the pages, posts, and template files sent through SiteDrive will be automatically set up and available right away.
Can I send files from my local environment to my live server through SiteDrive?
With SiteDrive, you can seamlessly connect your local site to a live site's drive. However, the connection does not work in reverse — you cannot access a locally hosted site from a live server. For SiteDrive to function, the server must be able to directly connect to the other site. While you may be able to view your locally hosted site, a live server cannot establish a connection to your computer.
What should I do if files or a drive are not accessible?
The most likely reason is the drive may have been deleted, made private, or your access key has been disabled. You should reach out to the drive owner if you are having trouble access the drive or follow our troubleshooting suggestions.
Does SiteDrive support custom file types?
Yes, this is one of the primary benefits of SiteDrive. You can add support for any file type by going to Integrations > Post > Configure and adding the custom post types of the product. You can also manage custom file types under settings.
Can I share code snippets with SiteDrive?
Absolutely! There are a couple of ways you can do this.
- You can put code into a child theme and share. Simply select Themes and add that Child Theme to your drive. Whoever has access to that drive will then be able to import.
- You could also add code through something like WP Code. You can go into Integrations > Post > Configure and add the post type (and you're done). This is one of the incredible superpowers of SiteDrive. You can add support for any WordPress post type and use SiteDrive to send those files to anyone in real time even if we don't have an integration yet.
Is there a file size limit?
For uploading to SiteDrive, it's limited by your PHP upload settings which is generally set by your host or changed in your hosting account. For importing from site to site, there is no limit.
What happens if I lose my connection key?
You should reach out to the drive owner.

Is there a SiteDrive API?
